Regional Health Resilience Webinar Series: HEALTH EFFECTS OF WILDFIRE TOXIC AIR EMISSIONS—Implications for Preparedness, Response, and Recovery August 8, 2018 Public Health, Uncategorized Public Health, Training, Webinar 0 You are invited to participate in a four-part Webinar Series to examine risks and short and long-term health effects from emissions of toxic chemicals from wildfires, burning buildings, and industrial facilities. These chemicals are exposure hazards to first responders, healthcare first receivers, personnel involved in restoration and clean-up activities, and the community at large. These 90-minute webinars will each feature a panel of practitioners and experts, followed by interactive discussions. Webinar 1, Wednesday, Aug. 29, 10:00 – 11:30 A.M. will examine risks of short and longer-term health effects from exposures to toxic chemicals in smoke and ash from wildfires, in both the initial fire response and post-fire recovery/cleanup. Webinar 2, Mid-Sept. (date/time TBP) will highlight wildfire case studies where chemical exposures have impacted response, including medical surge and evacuations, and recovery. Webinar 3, Mid-Oct. (date/time TBP) will focus on actions to improve personal protection, information-sharing, decision-making, and public education on chemical hazards, based upon gaps identified in Webinars 1 and 2. Webinar 4, Early Nov. (date/time TBP) will draw from the Webinar 1-3 discussions, as well as lessons learned from the 2018 wildfire season, to develop a prioritized Improvement Strategy for addressing chemical emissions from future wildfires. Who Should Participate: Representatives of public, private, and non-profit organizations with roles in protection, preparedness, response, and recovery related to wildfires.
